Ella and Fox

So in my previous blogpost I mentioned the Children's story that I was attempting to create. Obviously, as this was only a 6 week project, I was unable to complete the whole book itself, that would be madness, and probably slightly shit as well, because it would have been rushed. Taking this into account I decided to choose a couple of frames from the story to develop further.  I had a really fun time experimenting with this, as in the past I have stuck to scanned drawings adding colour from only the palettes in Photoshop. However this time i decided that scanning in my own materials would add another dimension to my images, and create a sort of quirk that it otherwise might not have held. Not all of the image contains scanned materials, but at least a couple of aspects in each do, and Ella's dress is scanned material.  Here are what I ended up with. I do think that these could be much improved, but time management is not something I am a pro at, so time was not on my s...

Character Design

With my current project I was lucky enough to be able to direct my area of study into basically any direction I chose. I've always loved to draw, and this fascinates me as I've really never had the question in my mind of "what do i want to be when i grow up?", because I always knew that drawing was what I loved to do. So once I realised that there was a career to be had from drawing/creating, my mind was set and that was that.  This struck a question in me, why do I like to draw? what made me have the fascination when i was that young. I guess, like most children, I was read children's stories pretty much every night before I went to sleep as a child. 'We're going on a bear hunt' was definitely one of my favourites, and I think one of the main stories that inspired me to draw. Most children's stories contain a simple yet moralised narrative, and I think the best stories have a narrative that is largely driven through its illustration as oppos...

Scribbling

Hi,  over the past couple of weeks I have found myself on ALOT of long boring train journeys, and therefore have created a lot of doodles during those long journeys to and from London. Also I have discovered that liquid ink fine liners are awesome !  They're really sketchy and messy because trains are jumpy. Also the guy sat next to me was rather large, so i was pretty much pressed right against the window.  big cheek bones, curly tash, reading glasses, lobe plug, cray hair this was meant to be abit androgynous, but it looks more female than male. Smoking.. person. X

In the Shadows

So , It recently occurred to me that I have not witnessed a Red Fox with my own eyes very many times. Having grown up in a fairly country-based town, I would frequently wake in the night startled by the sound of a Foxes shrill cry. However it would be near impossible to catch a sight of the sly creatures as they are incredibly timid, and would lurk in the shadows in my then overgrown childhood garden.  I think the fact that I knew Foxes were difficult to catch a glimpse of created an interest within me for the creatures, and as a child I would constantly be fascinated if I caught sight of a Fox skulking into a bush in the day, or scuttling across a land at night. I feel that I am not the only person that has witnessed the screech of a Fox, and not been able to see the culprit from my bedroom window, nor do I think I'm the only person who likes seeing them during the day, considering they are most famously nocturnal animals. This Idea of a child so fascinated by a particular anim...

Fun with Photoshop

One of my original drawings for my Methodology project stood out to me from the beginning. It was this of three childlike Fennec Foxes adventuring through the Sahara. To me it seems that the three foxes are young, perhaps this is the first time they have ventured out of their den without their mother. Obviously they are cartoon characterisations of the Fennec Fox , but there is a charm about them that inspired me to continue to draw these creatures as well as the Red Fox .  Ive always been very fond of enhancing my artwork through Photoshop, although I'm still learning how to properly manage the software to its full potential.  Origional drawing After having been manipulated in Photoshop
