In the Shadows

So, It recently occurred to me that I have not witnessed a Red Fox with my own eyes very many times. Having grown up in a fairly country-based town, I would frequently wake in the night startled by the sound of a Foxes shrill cry. However it would be near impossible to catch a sight of the sly creatures as they are incredibly timid, and would lurk in the shadows in my then overgrown childhood garden.

I think the fact that I knew Foxes were difficult to catch a glimpse of created an interest within me for the creatures, and as a child I would constantly be fascinated if I caught sight of a Fox skulking into a bush in the day, or scuttling across a land at night. I feel that I am not the only person that has witnessed the screech of a Fox, and not been able to see the culprit from my bedroom window, nor do I think I'm the only person who likes seeing them during the day, considering they are most famously nocturnal animals. This Idea of a child so fascinated by a particular animal, yet not being able to see it with their own eyes, gave me quite a distinct idea.

Here's what a came up with. Originally a pencil drawing, edited using Photoshop. I have also printed this image out in layers using tracing paper, and used it as a part of my Research Methodology project. Woo.
The first finished image. A sort of winter scene.
Snow topped, dead trees. And a girl searching in the dark.

My next finished image. The same scene, but in summer, when the trees are abundant with leaves. When printed, this image is layered with tracing paper holding the green over the trees, and another on top of that holding the shapes of the leaves. As you pull them away, you can still see the little girl searching for the Fox, even when its cold. Thus showing the sheer fascination many a child may hold, like i did.

The Perfect Cup of Tea

Soooo, Ive been looking further into the posible options for this project. At the moment I think I have whittled the choice down to two, and I am definatley struggling with any further desicion making! My first possible choice: The perfect cup of tea. This choice would lead me to creating something based on  step by step instructons through illustration.  Throughout our lives we come across such commodities as road signs, escape routes, aeroplane safety instructions. Most are mainly conveyed through simple illustrations, as to be understood quickly and efficiently in possible times of panic. Although I would not consider 'How to make the perfect cup of tea' a particular urgency, I will definitely be able to take inspiration from the above instructions to help with the project.   In June 2011, Richard Alleyne a former science correspondent, and senior general news reporter for the Daily Telegraph until April 2013, wrote an article on how scientists had discov...

Fun with Photoshop

One of my original drawings for my Methodology project stood out to me from the beginning. It was this of three childlike Fennec Foxes adventuring through the Sahara. To me it seems that the three foxes are young, perhaps this is the first time they have ventured out of their den without their mother. Obviously they are cartoon characterisations of the Fennec Fox , but there is a charm about them that inspired me to continue to draw these creatures as well as the Red Fox .  Ive always been very fond of enhancing my artwork through Photoshop, although I'm still learning how to properly manage the software to its full potential.  Origional drawing After having been manipulated in Photoshop
