Profiles

I go through stages with my drawings every once in a while. Sometimes one thing will inspire me, animals for example. And other times I will be inspired by something completely unrelated, like music, or a particular style. Lately, I've been much more drawn to human profiles than anything else. Theres something I like about capturing the expression of human form. Although life drawing has never been a passion of mine, I feel like my enjoyment of it is growing. I was meant to spent the whole day today doing work for a deadline on friday. I did get plenty of research done, but that was done between sketches. I cannot wait for this short research project to be over so that I can finally get back to drawing for my Narrative project!  Crosshatched to death. Theres something cool about a complete black and white sketch. But then again colour isn't so bad. The colours here are quite bold, and slightly insipid. Not sure why his skin is yellow!

MisterDressUp

So something exciting happened today! A short while ago I was asked by an online clothing store to create a design to feature in a monthly showcase on their site. My design has been printed, and is now on sale! The website,  http://www.misterdressup.com , is Canada based, and is solely dedicated to promoting artists and their works. For me this has been a great opportunity to get my work out there to a much larger audience, and I wanted to create an edgy design that would look cool and easily worn on a T. So this is what I came up with! Clothing design is something I am particularly interested in, and I'd love to do something similar in the future! Here's a link to my print and short bio on their site, check it out!  http://www.misterdressup.com/products/emily-allison This drawing was actually inspired by one of my drawings that i've included in a previous post, the chinese man with the glasses. After creating that design I decided that this style was one ...

Guitar Doodle

So , Lately I have been verrrry busy with my new project, which unfortunately has so far consisted of research mainly, which means I haven't got a lot of new artwork at the moment. I do think its best to fill up on research to begin with so you know exactly where to start from, but I also feel that there is only so much researching/writing I can do before I go mad, so i think I'll begin to start the creative process pretty soon.  Thankfully I have finally decided which route to follow with this project, I shall be drawing/making lots of cups of tea for the next few weeks. Good job I like tea. At this very moment I am sat in the library listening to spotify and doodling. This is the first sketch I've done in a few weeks I think, which is not great, but I decided to add a background in photoshop anyway.  Also I've got something exciting coming up real soon, stay tuned!  Music is one of the main things that inspires me to draw. I honestly don't think i c...

The Perfect Cup of Tea

Soooo, Ive been looking further into the posible options for this project. At the moment I think I have whittled the choice down to two, and I am definatley struggling with any further desicion making! My first possible choice: The perfect cup of tea. This choice would lead me to creating something based on  step by step instructons through illustration.  Throughout our lives we come across such commodities as road signs, escape routes, aeroplane safety instructions. Most are mainly conveyed through simple illustrations, as to be understood quickly and efficiently in possible times of panic. Although I would not consider 'How to make the perfect cup of tea' a particular urgency, I will definitely be able to take inspiration from the above instructions to help with the project.   In June 2011, Richard Alleyne a former science correspondent, and senior general news reporter for the Daily Telegraph until April 2013, wrote an article on how scientists had discov...

Narrative Illustration

So, my new project, titled 'Narrative Illustration', began this week and so far I am yet to decide on a topic with which to follow. With four paths to choose from I am overwhelmed with possibilities, so I have resulted to what I do best, procrastination. And what better way to procrastinate than messing around with my scanner? Title pages are always my go to when struggling with how to start a sketch book, so thats what I did, and hopefully I'll have more ideas to follow soon!  typography is fun X
