The Freelance Diary

Hello Friends! It's been a long time since my hands have touched the keys for this blog, since 2015.. and I can see no better opportunity for me to revive it to its former waffling glory, than to do so along side going freelance as a full time Illustrator.  Having overcome a few common obstacles since my last post on this blog, e.g. completing uni and finding a full time job in the months thereafter, it occurred to me that I had neglected this space in which it would have been so worthwhile to record my experiences. So here it is, The Freelance Diary, in which I shall document the transition between leaving my day job, and starting a full time career in doing something that I have only dreamt of, until today.  The decision is not easy to deny yourself the comfort and security of an assured pay slip at the end of each month. The reality of my circumstances were a constant stream of interesting client briefs, accompanied by equally as interesting co-creatives alongside whom ...

summer doodles

It feels like I haven't drawn in ages. Since I've been home from uni I've been slightly lazy and not done much illustration, so I'm hoping to change that and start creating some cool stuff to eventually add to my online shop, woo. I was hoping to start selling some of my stuff online over this summer. So far I have not sorted this out, but there is still time so I want to choose something to get up online soon! But for now here are a couple of little things I have made over the last couple of months, enjoy.  Also, I'm going on a trip mid august to a few places around america, and I'm hoping to take along a little travel sketch book and (try to) fill it up over the course of the three weeks that I will be exploring! So that will be fun, and hopefully a great way to get back into the routine of sketching which is much needed before I return back for my third year at uni!  Thanks for reading / looking at the pictures.

Greetings Cards

Recently I added a shop to my website, with the idea that I wanted to sell some products such as greetings cards and prints etc, so over the past week or so I've been creating some simple designs as sort of mock up ideas for what I could sell! So far, I've focused mainly on greetings cards, so here are a few of the designs that I've created so far. Also, I made a new logo, something simple that could easily be a part of my work without looking like an eye sore! Once you've had a look choose you're favourite and let me know!  New logo! (my initials)  The Birthday Bunny You're Great  Fox and Balloon  Hello Foxy Whats your favourite? Thanks for reading/looking at the pictures,

Final project of the year!

Its been a couple of months now since I have posted so I thought it was about time I gave a little update! Since posting about my Social awareness project, I have submitted my final body of work for the year, which means that my second year is over which is crazy because if feels as though it was only yesterday that I started. Following on from the Social Awareness project, we were set a new brief called 'Bookworks', which was essentially a book making project, and turned out to be quite challenging. Here are some images of parts of my final submission, a buried crate full of explorers books/objects, and an insight into the discovery of dinosaurs!  A double page spread from the finished book - A visual journal from a female explorer travelling the Amazon in the early 20th century, who has stumbled across prehistoric creatures!  These were some early dinosaur sketches that were a result of my experimentation with different illustrative styles that I wanted to...

Pigs for Social Awareness

Hi friends , its been a very long time since I've added anything onto here, because I've been doing lots of things and have been super busy! Since my last post I've had two really fun projects that have been and gone, and I'm now heading towards the end of my second year at uni which has gone so so so fast its unbelievable. But its been so much fun and really has made me into so much more of an artist, and helped me to define my style and improve my work, etc etc. Since my Number through Print project, I felt inspired and excited to up my game a little, and I suppose, take university a little more seriously than I had previously done. In doing this, I've really seen some results, and I've also ended up enjoying my work, not only the final outcome but the whole creative process also, a lot more than I had done in my first year, or even the first couple of projects in the second. Theres something so rewarding about creating content and artwork that I actually like...

Number through Print

For the last month or so things have been pretty hectic, and in all honesty I have purposely neglected my blog in order to make the most of my time focusing on other things. My latest project, for example, took up about 99.9% of my time, sort of . Realistically, it was more like 60% but sleep has to happen at some point. Anyway, I honestly feel as though I have never put as much effort into a piece of work/art/maybe even anything as I have done for the Number through Print project. I actually really enjoyed this project, even until the end, which is something I don't often get to say as I'm usually sick of the sight of my work by the end of the five weeks. But this one was different, as I feel that I dived right into the research aspect right at the beginning, rather than leaving it till two weeks in to sit and have a brain storm. This definitely aided me a lot in my time management, which is something that ordinarily I have no concept of. Definitely something i'm still wor...
