Character Design

With my current project I was lucky enough to be able to direct my area of study into basically any direction I chose. I've always loved to draw, and this fascinates me as I've really never had the question in my mind of "what do i want to be when i grow up?", because I always knew that drawing was what I loved to do. So once I realised that there was a career to be had from drawing/creating, my mind was set and that was that.

This struck a question in me, why do I like to draw? what made me have the fascination when i was that young. I guess, like most children, I was read children's stories pretty much every night before I went to sleep as a child. 'We're going on a bear hunt' was definitely one of my favourites, and I think one of the main stories that inspired me to draw. Most children's stories contain a simple yet moralised narrative, and I think the best stories have a narrative that is largely driven through its illustration as opposed to the literature. This has become a large aspect of my research for this project, and thus resulted in me creating a short tale about a Red Fox. It's still a work in progress, and to tell the truth I will possibly only complete a couple of pages, just to show what could become, had the project ran for longer than 6 weeks. However, I feel that this is possibly the best outcome for my research, especially as I want to delve into the children's book world in the future.

This is Ella, one of the main characters in the story.
I wanted to create a character that was cute and innocent looking,
but most of all relatable to a child.
Hopefully I have succeeded with that wish here.

The Perfect Cup of Tea

Soooo, Ive been looking further into the posible options for this project. At the moment I think I have whittled the choice down to two, and I am definatley struggling with any further desicion making! My first possible choice: The perfect cup of tea. This choice would lead me to creating something based on  step by step instructons through illustration.  Throughout our lives we come across such commodities as road signs, escape routes, aeroplane safety instructions. Most are mainly conveyed through simple illustrations, as to be understood quickly and efficiently in possible times of panic. Although I would not consider 'How to make the perfect cup of tea' a particular urgency, I will definitely be able to take inspiration from the above instructions to help with the project.   In June 2011, Richard Alleyne a former science correspondent, and senior general news reporter for the Daily Telegraph until April 2013, wrote an article on how scientists had discov...

Fun with Photoshop

One of my original drawings for my Methodology project stood out to me from the beginning. It was this of three childlike Fennec Foxes adventuring through the Sahara. To me it seems that the three foxes are young, perhaps this is the first time they have ventured out of their den without their mother. Obviously they are cartoon characterisations of the Fennec Fox , but there is a charm about them that inspired me to continue to draw these creatures as well as the Red Fox .  Ive always been very fond of enhancing my artwork through Photoshop, although I'm still learning how to properly manage the software to its full potential.  Origional drawing After having been manipulated in Photoshop
