Tablet Roses

Quick & short update of some of the things I've done lately! 
I recently got a graphics tablet which so far I am really enjoying. I've used them before so It's not completely new to me, but I feel there are lots of things that I still need to get used to whilst using it! Hopefully once I've been using it for a while I can give it a short review. So far all I've added to the drawings below using the tablet was the harsh outlines. 

These two illustrations were ones that I made today. I haven't really sat down and drawn anything properly for while so I felt like a doodle was due. Its quite satisfying to sit in the sun with my headphones on, and scribble down some initial ideas. Even more so when I design something I like enough to further develop it. The two illustrations below look fairly similar but in fact I had a slightly different approach with each of them.

Watercolour blotches scanned in and added on a different layer in photoshop. 

drawn with fine liners also, but water-colour added straight onto illustration.  
I'm still delving into profiles at the moment. Both of these are obviously of females, but look far more feminine and soft rather than my sometimes dark and sketchy characters. I do enjoy rough pen sketches a lot but theres something about both of these that I quite like. They're so solidly pieced together and smoothed out that they're almost resemble logos, or stickers. I definitely want to get back into drawing animals more. I never used to draw people, but recently that seems to be all I draw!

Tea in Paris

I haven't posted in a while, due to being incredibly busy with a building amount of uni work, and returning home to essex for easter.   So heres a brief catch up on some of the stuff I've been working on for the last few weeks!  My project has come to a point where I am finalising ideas and bringing my creative thoughts together. My favourite part of a project! For this project it has been slightly frustrating because I had a good idea of where I wanted to go with it from the beginning. messing with watercolours

I love the concept of the summer project I have been set! I feel that recording my life visually is a much more interesting way of keeping a diary rather than presenting my experiences in a written format. I think this task will be extremely beneficial for me. I love to draw, and I know that once I start I have a great pleasure in creating something that I can be proud of. However for the last week or two I've felt pretty uninspired to say the least. I haven't so much as picked up a pen let alone created anything worth presenting. Theres only one way to get out of that frame of mind though, and that is to push yourself. The best way to work through a rough patch is just to keep creating, despite the fact that you may think what you are creating is slightly shit. Thats why a diary in which I can draw everyday, be it a doodle if I'm feeling lazy, or a half decent drawing, will be great for keeping me inspired! Street Art and Vinyl

So yesterday was ridiculously sunny here in essex, and although an overwhelming amount of uni work is still technically at the top of my to-do list, I couldn't resist taking a short train journey to London for the day. So instead of surrounding myself with the contents of my art collection, trying intensively to rack my brain for some inspiration, I threw caution to the wind, and unsurprisingly I stumbled across a lot of cool stuff throughout the day.  Like this for example, on Brick lane:  I guess it's sort of a form of cubism? I especially like how they have mixed real human features with block colour. Surreal. I think it has something to do with raising awareness of homelessness. Which is of course a very serious topic, and what better way to promote an important issue than to plaster it onto an outside wall on a busy street for all to see?
