June & Change

So between preparing to return back to essex during my final week of university for the year, and then actually travelling home with my overwhelming amount of belongings, I unsurprisingly haven't been drawing that much. My goal of blogging weekly hasn't materialised just yet, but hopefully now I'm back for summer this can and will now happen. For me, 2014 has flown by ridiculously fast. Not only has my first year of university finished already, but we're almost half way through June too. Mad. June is my favourite month, partly because thats typically when the weather changes for the better, but mainly because it's my birthday month yay

I love June
Over the last year I'd say my life, and the majority of the peoples lives around me, have changed quite progressively. I came across a saying the other week which has stuck with me since. This saying was 'If you change nothing, nothing will change'. This made me realise that if you really aren't happy with something, or you have a dream or aspiration, you are the only person that can make that change a reality. Really, the only person holding you back from anything in life, is yourself. This post has gradually become more intense that I intended. Basically, I love Typography and creating art through words is way more interesting when what you're writing has an element of insight to it. After discovering that Typography was a highly popular art form in itself through artists like Sean McCabe (http://seanwes.com) and Christopher Delorenzo (http://www.johnnycupcakes.com/blog/2011/02/christopher-delorenzo/) I realised that it was something that I would strive to become reasonably goodish at. Practise makes perfect, and at the moment I'm still loving using photoshop so I've continued editing around on that too.

Sketch out in pencil, and played around with on photoshop. Voila.
Slightly less shit that my past attempts, thankfully.

Thanks for reading/looking at my pictures.

The Perfect Cup of Tea

Soooo, Ive been looking further into the posible options for this project. At the moment I think I have whittled the choice down to two, and I am definatley struggling with any further desicion making! My first possible choice: The perfect cup of tea. This choice would lead me to creating something based on  step by step instructons through illustration.  Throughout our lives we come across such commodities as road signs, escape routes, aeroplane safety instructions. Most are mainly conveyed through simple illustrations, as to be understood quickly and efficiently in possible times of panic. Although I would not consider 'How to make the perfect cup of tea' a particular urgency, I will definitely be able to take inspiration from the above instructions to help with the project.   In June 2011, Richard Alleyne a former science correspondent, and senior general news reporter for the Daily Telegraph until April 2013, wrote an article on how scientists had discov...

Welcome to my blog!

Hi my name is Emily May Allison, and I draw I have been an Illustration Student at the University of Portsmouth since september 2013, and so far loving the course. On this blog I will be posting some of my work from the projects I have committed myself to during my course, however also I will post general artwork I have produced alongside uni work.  Enjoy! x

Fun with Photoshop

One of my original drawings for my Methodology project stood out to me from the beginning. It was this of three childlike Fennec Foxes adventuring through the Sahara. To me it seems that the three foxes are young, perhaps this is the first time they have ventured out of their den without their mother. Obviously they are cartoon characterisations of the Fennec Fox , but there is a charm about them that inspired me to continue to draw these creatures as well as the Red Fox .  Ive always been very fond of enhancing my artwork through Photoshop, although I'm still learning how to properly manage the software to its full potential.  Origional drawing After having been manipulated in Photoshop
